Rachel Gutru was born June 14, 1919 in Minnesota and raised in Wichita, Kansas. She attended Wichita State University for one year then transferred to Colorado College in College Springs, Colorado to figure skate as a solo performer.

Once Rachel married and the first of her f two children was born, she devoted her early adulthood to raising her children. She divorced her first husband but soon remarried and helped to raise his three children, too. Some years after the death of her husband, Rachel married again. After his death, she moved to Mt Meadows Retirement Village in Leavenworth. Rachel says that she tries not to take herself too seriously.
